Times certainly do change for everyone, for even the biggest rivals turn into close pals with the gradual passage of time: Just like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger did. Once famous for their never-ending competition, now the pair is famous for their decades-long friendship. And being a good friend, Stallone was worried about Schwarzenegger when he decided to jump into the one field that Hollywood celebrities precisely avoid: Politics.

Over two decades back, when theTerminatorstar announced that he would be running for the Governor of California, theRambowas worried that his rival-turned-close-companion might be jumping into dangerous waters that may not turn out all too well for him.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is an incredible actor and an even extraordinarily tremendous bodybuilder, but it seems that the two fields weren’t enough for him to excel. Perhaps that was the reason why he campaigned to become the Governor of California back in 2003. Appearing onThe Tonight Show, he shared a message for the then-governor Gray Davis (viaWIRED):

“Do your job for the people, and do it well — otherwise, you are hasta la vista, baby.”
While theTrue Liesstar was fearlessly heading towards doing the one thing that Hollywood celebrities are precisely scared of, his pal Sylvester Stallone was afraid that Schwarzenegger might be swimming in dangerous waters. Sharing some words of wisdom for his fellow action hero, Stallone said at the 60th film festival in Venice (viaWIRED):

“I think it’s very dangerous waters. In that particular field, you can’t yell ‘action’ and ‘cut’ and ‘take two’ and ‘take three.’ It’s real.”
However, theRambostar also hoped for things to turn out just fine for Schwarzenegger now that he had already made his mind up about getting into politics.

“I personally think actors should remain actors, but I know he’s always had blind ambition for that, so maybe it’ll work out great for him.”
Thankfully, the general rule of ‘politics creating a bad image for celebrities’ didn’t apply toArnold Schwarzenegger, for he not only got elected and did his job to the best of his ability but is still one of the greatest celebrities of all time as well!

Sylvester Stallone Is Now Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Biggest Supporter In Every Field
While Sylvester Stallone feared Arnold Schwarzenegger’s downfall following his decision to become a political figure as well, things ended up turning out just fine, relieving both the action heroes. Now,The Expendablesco-director is all praise for his long-time best friend. In an interview with theLos Angeles Times, he said:
“When people ask me who is the most extraordinary guy I’ve ever met, I answer that it’s [Arnold Schwarzenegger]. Think about it – the force of will and the fact that he is successful in three diverse and impossibly difficult areas. The politics of bodybuilding? Forget about it. And he was and is the most influential bodybuilder who ever lived, by far. Then, in Hollywood, with his background of being Austrian and all this baggage of not being American, and he became No. 1.”
Not only this, but Stallone has also become one of the biggest supporters of Schwarzenegger’s cause, even going so far as to say that he would have made a good president.
“And then politics, it’s off-the-chart hard, he’s the governor of California. That’s all, just the governor of the biggest state in population. This is not some city council somewhere. And he would make it as a presidential candidate. It’s mind-blowing.”
For what it’s worth, both Arnold Schwarzenegger andSylvester Stalloneare lucky to have each other. May this Arnie-Stallone friendship last forever!
