Carey Mulligan is one of the most prominent actresses working in Hollywood today. The actress has been a part of landmark films such asAn Education, Drive, The Great Gatsby,andPride & Prejudice. Mulligan will be next seen in the Bradley Cooper directorialMaestro. The film chronicles the relationship between composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre. Mulligan plays Felicia with Cooper taking on the role of Bernstein. Mulligan revealed that she agreed to do the script after being impressed by Cooper’sA Star Is Born.

Carey Mulliganhas had her fair share of intense roles. She has done extensive work on the stage, being nominated for a Tony Award for her Broadway production ofSkylight. She has also appeared in films such asDrive,Shame, andWildlife, where she got to flex her acting muscles.
InMaestro, Mulligan plays the role of Felicia Montealegre, a Chilean actress who married composer Leonard Bernstein. Felicia and Bernstein reportedly shared a beautiful marriage filled with love for each other. However, Bernstein comes out with his homosexuality, which causes a hiccup in their marriage.

To play the character of Felicia, Carey Mulligan mentioned that she took painting classes to understand better the actress who used to paint, read through interviews, spoke to the actress’ kids, and mastered the dialect of the Costa Rican native. She said she felt the rush of being on stage while acting in the film.

In a recent interview withVariety, Mulligan spoke about her experience in the film,
“We really rehearsed it like a play. We had so much prep. We also spent a week together doing a specific workshop just on our two characters…The great nights for me when I’m onstage are when I walk off and I’m like, ‘I have no idea what just happened!’…And that was my experience on this. I felt that freedom that I had had onstage.”

The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and opened to positive reviews and acclaim from critics.

Carey Mulligan Accepted The Role After Loving Bradley Cooper’s Debut Directorial
The dramaMaestroisBradley Cooper’ssophomore directorial effort. The actor made his debut with the musical dramaA Star Is Born, a remake of the classic film. He was nominated for Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay for the film, while it was also nominated for Best Picture. The film won the Award for Best Original Song for ‘Shallow’.
Carey Mulligan mentioned that Cooper’s glorious debut was one of the biggest reasons why she chose to appear as Felicia Montealegre inMaestro. She was all praises for the film which apparently gutted her. She said,
“I obviously have known Bradley for a long time. He had come to see lots of theater I’d done in the past…And we’d kind of bumped into each other along the way. And I’ve been such a huge admirer of his work as an actor, and also as a director. I loved “A Star Is Born” — it absolutely ruined me.”
After the actress came on board the film, she mentioned that she was surprised by the amount of preparation and research Bradley Cooper had done for the role. She also praised him for keeping a great set which prompted her to give a great performance. She said,
“I will get on set sometimes and just freak out, because I feel self-conscious, or I feel like I’m not ready. I never felt like that on this set. I always felt like I couldn’t fail. Bradley made it feel like you couldn’t, and that was the environment that everyone walked into.”
The film will be streaming from December 20 on Netflix, with a limited theatrical release on November 22.
