It couldn’t have been a better choice for DCU’s Superman other than David Corenswet, who was the fan favorite to secure the role of Man of Steel in the new universe. Even though many did initially worry that his resemblance to Henry Cavill might not work in his favor as James Gunn is going for a fresh start with the DCU, but fortunately it wasn’t the case.

David Corenswet is a fan favorite

With James Gunn once again nailing it with the casting that many believed wasn’t going to be an easy task after the axing of Cavill, Corenswet’s casting also sends a nice homage to the Superman creators.

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster

The casting of David Corenswet as Superman is a nice nod to the original creators

The story of the Superman creators, Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, was a tragic one. The initial motive behind their decision to start working as comic-book artists was a way to make a little income to support their families as they were immigrants from Eastern Europe. Although it might’ve been the loss of Siegel’s father that pushed them to craft a super-being to avenge evil and fight for good, unfortunately, they sold the rights of the Kryptonian early on in their career, before the character would become a cultural icon.

But the casting ofDavid Corenswetas the next Man of Steel, who will be truer to the source material, is a nice homage to the Jewish comic book legends. ConsideringThe Politicianstar identifies himself as Jewish, his casting is a nice way to pay respects to the greats behind Superman’s creation.

Considering Ben Grimm is Jewish in the comics, fans are now hoping that ends up being the case in the highly anticipatedFantastic Four.
