For as long as there has been stories about Peter Parker and Spider-Man, there has been people disagreeing on exactly what the character deserves, and what his ending should be. Not so long ago there was a major criticism of the character’s comic portrayal, after his story was moved forward, making him marry Mary Jane and have a daughter.

Of course this ended up being retconned, because any meaningful character transformation to the teenage superhero is absolutely not on, and never going to happen. This debate is still raging within the comic community, with some arguing that for a character to stay relevant, he/she/they need to grow, and others arguing that the finer parts of Parker and Spider-Man is his teenage antics, his inability to fit in and his moral compass, regardless of real life circumstances. This has now bubbled over into the Insomniac universe, with people over on Reddit ‘discussing’ how they think Insomniac’sMarvel’s Spider-Mansaga should finish.

Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man Saga So Far

Insomniac Games have spent a lot of time over the eight years designing and bringing us arguably the best gaming interpretation of the character ever. Since it was announced in 2015, fans have been wondering what direction they’d go in with the character, and thankfully, the developers have definitely delivered.

The decision to introduce the audience to the world via an opening boss fight and early dispatch of Spider-Man’s most prominent villain was a masterstroke, and whilst some games may have felt bloated, Insomniac ensured the many villains present were given their own character arcs, room to breathe and more importantly, a narrative reason to be there.

This continued with the semi-sequel/spin-offMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Now we find ourselves coming uponMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, and we find Peter deep into his 20s, already having faced many of his most famous foes (many before the opening of the first game), and now in stable relationship with a normal future ahead of him. Of course, that’s before the symbiote turns up, and later on Venom. How he’ll triumph here, or what he’ll do is up in the air, but we can’t wait to find out.

How do you Think Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man Saga Will End?

It may be incredibly premature to even ask this question, but one thoughtful soul over at Reddit is ahead of the game. With presumably more expansions of Insomniac’s Gaming universe due, the next beingMarvel’s Wolverine,as well as no doubt other hidden and unannounced future projects, the end is far nigh.

During the discussion though, a surprising amount of the people commenting want Peter to have a happy ending. Marriage, baby, normal life. The whole set-up. Many argue this is exactly what he’d deserve after giving so much of his own life to serving others, losing those he loves in the process as well as his own personal injury and trauma. This is the very same argument that many have with regards to his comic counterpart, and it’s difficult to argue against.

Some have though, with a few select people commenting the likes of“It’s not like Peter to retire from being Spider-Man. You know, responsibility and great power and what not. Dead uncle and such.”, and“I don’t think Peter should die or retire. I like spider man being active when he’s old.”.Both u/DoubleU159 and u/00africanprince have valid points there, but at what point does a superhero decide enough is enough, and that they’ve given all they can?

One thing is clear from the Reddit thread, no-one can really agree on what they want. So far whenever we’ve tried to second-guess Insomniac’sMarvel’s Spider-Mansaga we’ve always been wrong, I mean, no-one expected the whole Doc Ock as a mentor angle from the first game. Who knows, maybe that’ll setup a Superior Spider-Man angle in the inevitable third game?

What do you make of all this? How doyouwant Insomniac’sMarvel’s Spider-Mansaga to finish? Let us know in the comments!
