James Gunn recently finalized his venture at Marvel Studios with the thirdGuardians of the Galaxymovie and is all set to start working on the first film for the new DCU.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3has been doing great at the box office and with its director now focused on his DC duties, it is uncertain what the MCU has in store for the Guardians in the future. However, this is not the first time this uncertainty has surrounded the film and its beloved characters.

Considering the huge success of the 2014 film and its sequel, many expected Gunn to also direct the threequel in the series. However, the studio severed its business relations with the director after a series of Gunn’s controversial tweets resurfaced in 2018. During a recent interview, he recalled the time and shared how it made him realize that he has the most wonderful people by his side.

James Gunn Describes His Marvel Firing as Painful
James Gunn’sfiring from Marvel Studios became a hot topic of conversation as he was known for introducing the Guardians in the MCU and giving two successful films to the franchise. The decision was taken after a number of old controversial tweets made by the filmmaker resurfaced.
It caused an outrage on social media, with many demanding the studio to fire him from the position of director for theGuardians of the Galaxythreequel. During a recent interview with OneMan, James Gunn talked about it and described it as a very painful time for him.

“On one hand, it was a very painful period and there are moments when I recall it and say to myself, ‘God, why were you so stupid?'”
Although it was not a very pleasant experience for him, thePeacemakerdirector also feels grateful for it. He said that it happened at a time when he really needed something like that. Gunn shared that the firing made him realize why he loved making movies and learned a great life lesson from that experience.

James Gunn is Grateful For His Friends And Family
Talking about the things he learned after being fired from the most successful work of his career, James Gunn realized that he was surrounded by the most wonderful people. He shared that he worked hard as he believed that he would be loved for his“status and fame”in the film industry.
However, it changed after he was fired as he realized that he had the“most wonderful people by [his] side.”TheSuperdirector shared that his wife, his parents, along with the cast of theGuardians of the Galaxysupported him during that time.

“My partner, who is now my wife, my parents, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen, Pom. They all supported me,”Gunn shared. He said that it also made him realize that people around him loved him for who he was and not because of his status or the work he did.
Gunn said that he is grateful for the life lesson he learned after being fired. Almost a year after his firing, he was re-hired by the studio to work on theGuardians of the Galaxythreequel, which was released earlier this month.
