The war between traditions and modernism continues as James Cameron is not too comfortable with streaming services. WithAvatar: The Way of Waterrelishing in the success at box office theaters, people eagerly await a release date on streaming platforms.

James Cameron urges people to go to theaters.

Director James Cameron is not so keen on bringing his magnum opus on an online platform. Declaring a war on streaming services, Cameron claimed that people need to go to theaters instead of sitting in their homes.

At the moment of writing, James Cameron’s magnum opusAvatar: The Way of Wateris on its way to achieving the $2 billion mark. With the much-loved reception that theTitanicdirector is getting for his film, he declared a war on streaming platforms.

In an interview withVariety,James Cameron talked about the success ofAvatar 2and how he wished that people would go to the theaters. Calling them lazy, theTerminatordirector stated that he is tired of people sitting at home. He remarked that people, as a society, should go to movie theaters.

“I’m not thinking of it in those terms. I’m thinking of it in the terms of we’re going back to theaters around the world. They’re even going back to theaters in China where they’re having this big COVID surge. We’re saying as a society, ‘We need this! We need to go to theaters.’ Enough with the streaming already! I’m tired of sitting on my ass.”

James Cameron is already planning sequels to Avatar: The Way of Water.

People did not take too kindly to the message, they started trolling the director on Twitter. Claiming thatAvatar: The Way of Waterwill eventually be released on streaming platforms, people seemed to disobey James Cameron.

If Cameron really thinks that people who saw Avatar 2 in theaters hate streaming, maybe I won’t go to watch Avatar 3 in a theater and wait until it’s available for streaming instead.

Along with the trolling, several tweets also stated high ticket prices and other factors that influenced them to switch towards streaming services. It is, however, remarkable thatAvatar: The Way of Watercrossed the $1.5 billion mark in a few weeks since its release on 16th December 2022. According to reports, however,James Cameronis not done with theAvatarfranchise since he is already planning anAvataruniverse.

With the billions of dollars thatAvatar: The Way of Wateris raking in, theAliensdirector stated that they will break even in a few days. Talking on an episode ofWho’s Talking to Chris Wallace?the director revealed his plans for a sequel to his current magnum opus. Cameron further insinuated that he“can’t wiggle out of this”and will have to do those sequels.

“It looks like with the momentum that the film has now that we’ll easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this and I’m gonna have to do these other sequels. I know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years.”

With his declaration of war on streaming platforms, it is uncertain whetherAvatar: The Way of Waterwill be released digitally onto OTT platforms.

As for now,Avatar: The Way of Wateris currently screening in theaters across the world.
