As the gaming community waits to see what’s new inGTA 6, gamers hope Rockstar Games brings back the single-player expansions that have not been released for a while now. It might still be quite unlikely but for now, if an insider’s claim is anything to go by, fans should hope Rockstar uses the old ways.

GTA 4 had two single-player DLCs, a trend that didn’t continue on to the next GTA title, GTA 5.

Once the trailer officially drops, it’s expected to break records on YouTube, just as the announcement broke the record number of likes on X. Bringing back single-player DLCs in some way or form could make the single-player campaign in the game a lot more interesting, giving fans something to look forward to post-launch.

Single-Player DLC by Rockstar Games was Last Seen Back in GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption

2008’sGrand Theft Auto 4was one of the best-selling games in the franchise, second only toGrand Theft Auto 5in terms of sales. The storyline was dark and intense, and everything the franchise never was up until the release of the title. The protagonist in the game, Niko Bellic’s character, is still considered the main reason behind the title’s success.

Rockstar Games released two additional DLCs as well forGrand Theft Auto 4. The two DLCs,The Lost and DamnedandThe Ballad of Gay Tonyintroduced two new characters to gamers, both of which were single-player DLCs. This trend of releasing single-player ended withGrand Theft Auto 4, however, as the main focus withGrand Theft Auto 5shifted towards the game’s online mode,GTA Online.

Rockstar Games' approach can’t be predicted but single-story DLCs are highly rumored to return in GTA 6.

Since its release,GTA Onlinehas received a plethora of DLCs in the form of additional content, and new missions, and in 2019, Rockstar Games releasedThe Diamond Casino & Resortupdate which opened the casino to gamers to gamble, play minigames, place bets and own a fully customizable penthouse.

GTA Onlinekept getting new expansions, the most recent of which was theSan Andreas Mercenaries, launched back in June this year. Apart from introducing a new freelance mercenary group and new activities that came with it, the expansion also brought a new stable of cars that were made eligible for Taxi Work in the game. While this delivered new activities to all the online gamers, single-player gamers were left with the game’s main campaign that didn’t get any sort of expansion.

Insider Claims Single-Player DLC Plans Could Be Revived For GTA 6

Replying to a fan onGTAForumswho had posted a question about whether it was quite difficult for Rockstar Games to bring back single-player expansion, popular Rockstar Games insider, Tez2 replied “Not really…“. He went on to reveal that the plan to bring single-player DLC was considered forGrand Theft Auto 5as well until the studio’s focus moved to the online mode and work having already “started on the next title“.

The insider continued to mention that Rockstar Games could very well bring back “the same pattern” with the nextGTAtitle before considering whether or not to go through with the plans. Tez2 also mentioned that chances are high for Rockstar Games to bring back single-player DLC and that they might consider taking an “episodic content” approach and release them either “yearly or bi-yearly” to reduce crunch.

Overwatch 2 Season 10 has Done the Unthinkable, and Fans Aren’t Impressed

All of these claims won’t get validated any time soon, or at least until Rockstar Games reveals more details about the next title in the franchise. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to take these claims with a side of salt.Grand Theft Auto 6has been heavily rumored to feature one of the biggest maps in the franchise and is also rumored to have been under development with the biggest budget ever in the gaming industry’s history.

GTA Onlinehas plenty of new content coming out every week at the moment and it’s also not a bad time to replayGrand Theft Auto 5‘s single-player story one last time.
