TheHarry Potterfilm series was pretty epic right from the start, and even fans who had never read the books couldn’t help but fall in love with all the characters–be it the lead ones or the supporting ones. But as the actors in the movies grew and developed with their characters, so did their personalities and… well, their hair.

Although their hair was trimmed down to a favorable extent for most of the films,Harry Potter and the Goblet of Firesaw something different as the entire leading cast was seen with extremely long hair. The reason behind this? Because of a ridiculous little miscommunication on director Mike Newell’s part!

Among all the changes seen in the characters in theHarry Pottersaga, there was one fromTheGoblet of Firethat fans just couldn’t unsee: the extremely long hair that all the lead males sported in the film. And it was all thanks to directorMike Newell‘s miscommunication because he was privy to the rule that the actors couldn’t cut their hair during their summer breaks.

A little backstory here: Apparently, after the shoot of every film from the series ended, the actors were told to not cut their hair over the break that they got so that when they returned for the next movie, the director could choose how to style their hair for the respective film. As child actors, Daniel Radcliffe andRupert Grintespecially followed this command.
However, little did they know that after they were done with the break followingThePrisoner of Azkabanand returned forTheGoblet of Fire, they wouldn’t be allowed to trim their extremely long hair because Newell felt that their hairstyles perfectly matched the ‘growing up teenagers’ personality that they were going to play in that film.

While this had the entire leading cast in regret of following the previous directors’ commands and not cutting their hair, little did they know that this was actually the closest to the bookish look thatHarry Pottersported and that it was exactly what the audiences had been wanting to see their beloved characters like all along.

Daniel Radcliffe Had The Most Hilarious Reaction To This Revelation
InHarry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,Daniel Radcliffeshared his and co-star Rupert Grint’s hilarious reaction to finding out that they weren’t getting a haircut forThe Goblet of Fire. He said:
“[We] came in [to the sets] and [Mike Newell looked at our hairstyles and] was like, ‘Oh, yeah, great!’ And we’re like, ‘No! No, no, no, no, no, you’re not leaving us like this. Like, this is–we’re supposed to be like teenagers and dating and girls in this film! You can’t–that’s not what it’s gonna be, is it?’ So I think we were pretty devastated as we realized that it was. But still, I still love the man [Mike Newell]. [Laughs].”
But fans don’t quite know what exactly they were devastated about because, well, all the lead characters pretty much rocked the messy long hairstyles inHarry Potter and the Goblet of Firein the most immaculate way ever!
