Arnold Schwarzenegger Rejected Jerry Bruckhiemer’s Offer To Join The Cast OfThe Rock

In this regard,Arnold Schwarzeneggerhas accomplished everything since his films have become classic parts of cinema history. Thus, to maintain that image, he had to be really careful which project he was going to be a part of, and when he was shown the screenplay for director Michael Bay’s 1996 action filmThe Rock,he decided to pass on the offer.
In a past interview, theCommandostar talked about before Nicolas Cage signed in for the main role in the aforementioned film, he was offered the position by the producer Jerry Bruckheimer himself. He further revealed that he was shown the screenplay by Don Simpson, the other half of the producers’ department, and he was quite perplexed seeing it since it seemed half-baked to him, along with the fact that he wasn’t shown the entire thing, just some parts of it. Therefore, not knowing what he was getting himself into, he declined, which made the producer mad. He said:
“He has 85 pages with him and there are handwritten notes all over it by Jerry Bruckheimer. He says, ‘Here, look at this script. But don’t read it! Just, here’s what the premise is…’ He was all over the place. I said, ‘Look, Don. I can’t make a commitment based on what you’re showing me here. You won’t even let me read the script! Why don’t you bake it some more, develop it some more and then we’ll talk again.’ He was very upset. He just walked out and then went to Nicolas Cage with the part.”
While Schwarzenegger may have decided to opt out of the film, his decision came as a boon for Nicolas Cage, who was just transitioning himself into the action genre, and this film became one of the reasons for his future success.
