While shooting for a major film for months on end, it’s natural for stars to bring in some form of entertainment or create some form of bond with the cast and crew that makes it just a little bit more fun and engaging. This is exactly what Janet Jackson was going for when she was shooting for her then-upcoming filmPoetic Justice.
During this film, she was also shooting with one of the greatest rappers of all time and actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s ex-boyfriend Tupac Shakur, who was the male lead of the film. During their time together, considering both of them were musical artists, they would get along with each other very well, but as per reports, maybe that wasn’t the case.
Tupac Shakur Was Banned From Kissing Janet Jackson Until He Got AIDS Test Done
During the good old days of old-school hip-hop, there was a time when the LateTupac Shakurwas a big name not just in the music industry, but also in the film industry, making cameos and special appearances here and there. One of the films where he played the lead wasPoetic Justice, a romance drama film where singer and actress Janet Jackson was the female lead. While the film may have been an amazing offer to the audience, it seems like Shakur was played by Jackson and the director on the sets of the film.
In a past interview withThe Daily Beast, the director of the aforementioned film John Singleton talked about working with theCalifornia Lovesinger on their film, where he also opened up about the fact that he had banned Shakur from kissing Jackson. He clarified that it was all a joke and that he, along with Jackson and the rest of the crew were in on it, but the rapper didn’t understand it at all, taking it as an insult. He said:
“Me and Pac didn’t know Janet was married so we both were flirting with her and stuff. We’re on the set joking, with Janet there and the whole cast, and I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want you kissing my actresses—I don’t know where your lips have been. We’re gonna have to get you an AIDS test for you to kiss my actress!’ And it became a joke. And then a joke turned into some publicity and he was the only one that was left out of the circle.”
While it may have been a joke in the end, the fact that the crew got a bad reputation because of this misunderstanding was a big hit for them nonetheless.

A film about the loss of love and finding it along a journey is what encapsulates the essence ofPoetic Justice.After the death of her boyfriend, who was murdered, Justice tries to cope with her loss by writing poetry to express her feelings welling deep inside her. One day, on her way to a convention, her car breaks down, which eventually leads her to ask her friend Iesha for help.
Iesha agrees, and together with her boyfriend Chicago, she picks Justice along for the ride. But tagging along with the three of them is Chicago’s co-worker Lucky, a man that Justice seems to be growing closer to as time goes by, but is still confused about whether she’s ready to open her heart to anyone again.
