Quentin Tarantino is one of the most respected filmmakers in the Hollywood industry and he will officially be concluding his run as a director after the release of his final movie,The Movie Critic. He has been very decisive about what movies he makes and the actors he casts to play roles that will later become massively iconic. These days, being an actor requires the skill to switch accents easily. However, that is not the only thing the legendary director looks for.

Some directors do not mind hiring British actors to play American roles and the exact opposite of that. That is not Tarantino’s vision though, in his perspective, he would rather only hire Americans if the movie was based in the United States. Christopher Nolan on the other hand, has no such limitations.

Quentin Tarantino Almost Cast Idris Elba InDjango Unchained

Out of the many iconic movies thatQuentin Tarantinohas made, none fall as vividly asDjango Unchaineddoes. The titular role was initially meant for Will Smith but the actor turned it down, leaving Tarantino to go on a hunt for his perfect protagonist. The role went from Idris Elba to Jamie Foxx, who ultimately grabbed the role.

“Yeah, Idris is British and this is an American story. I think a problem with a lot of movies that deal with this issue is they cast British actors to play the southerners and it goes a long way to distancing the movie.”

Christopher Nolan

Idris Elba was one of the strongest contenders for the role of Django but Tarantino was not very keen on the idea of casting him because he is British. According to him, if the story being told is American, then it will always be better to cast American actors. Talent is spread throughout the world, so the director too was more keen on looking for American actors. Although he stated that he has no hatred towards British actors, it’s just his personal preference.
