Richard Gere is an American actor known for his movies such asPretty Woman, Hachiko,and,Unfaithful.Starring in the 1980 film titledAmerican Gigolo,Gere portrayed the role of a male escort and established himself as a s*x icon in Hollywood.
The actor, however, did ruin his career by starring in movies that he should not have starred in. Regretting about the movies that he agreed to, Richard Gere revealed that he had to do some extra things to get a good script after his image had been ruined.

While naming the movies that made him not a credible actor, Richard Gere revealed that he never should have done the 1990 moviePretty Womanor the 1982 filmAn Officer and a Gentleman.The actor revealed that both movies were pitched to him by the same man, Jeffrey Katzenberg who was the CEO of DreamWorks Animation from 1984 to 1994.

As per the 1993 issue of Movieline magazine (viaLebeaule Blog), the actor was quoted saying that he was“going off to do other things”while he was shootingPretty Woman.Regretting his decisions, Richard Gere revealed that he wasn’t the guy whom people would cast in movies anymore and that he had essentially ruined his career by making the wrong choices.
“Pretty Woman (1990) is something I never would have done. Neither is An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). I had no interest in these scripts whatsoever. It was the same person knocking my door down on both of them, Jeffrey Katzenberg, first at Paramount, then at Disney, who was one of my first friends out here and still is.”
He further continued,
“At the point of Pretty Woman (1990), I had been kind of out of things for a while. I consciously [had] just said, ‘Going off to do other things’ and I f—ked up my career to the point where [people weren’t saying], ‘Well, let’s get Gere to do that'”
Continuing his talks,Richard Gererevealed that he had to work a bit extra hard for good scripts until people started trusting him as a credible actor again.

The actor further continued that since his credibility had taken a hit, Gere had to“crawl a little bit”to get scripts since he wasn’t the guy whom people would offer a script anymore. The actor revealed to Movieline magazine (viaLebeaule Blog), thatInternal Affairswas a movie that Richard Gere wouldn’t have ever done if he had a choice!
“I had to crawl a little bit to get scripts. Doing Internal Affairs (1990), for instance, was a very difficult decision for me to make because, potentially, that could have been such a piece of shit. It turns out to be one of my favorite movies and best experiences, too.”
The actor was last seen in the 2023 movieMaybe I Dowhile he is associated with two more projects in the pre-production stage of development. Suffice it to say, Richard Gere saved his career from dying.
