The DCU has received a soft reboot in the form of DC Studio CEO James Gunn’s new shared universe which would begin withSuperman: Legacy. The film would be focussing on a younger version of Superman, thus officially ending Henry Cavill’s iteration of the iconic superhero.

James Gunn’s DCU is supposed to be a ‘soft reboot’ of the franchise, with scope for actors from the Snyderverse to cross over. One of those actors is rumored to be Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman in the franchise.

ActressGal Gadotdebuted as Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman in the Zack Snyder-directedBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.The film saw her team up with Ben Affleck’s Batman andHenry Cavill’s Superman to fight against Doomsday. She ends up forming a good working relationship with Batman.

Gadot received her solo film as the superhero inWonder Woman, which was directed by Patty Jenkins. The film was a huge hit, earning positive reviews all around as well a whopping $822 million at the box office. The film received a sequel titledWonder Woman 1984. The film suffered from having limited screens since it was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, but ended up becoming the most streamed film of 2020.

A third film was planned with both Gadot and Jenkins returning but was reportedly canceled after James Gunn’s new DCU plan.

Will Wonder Woman Be A Part Of James Gunn’s DCU?

While many of the previously planned DCU projects stood canceled after the restructuring of DC Studios, Gal Gadot issued a statement saying that things were looking positive when it came to her reprising her role as Diana Prince. Speaking toComicBook, Gadot said,

“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

The actress in a separate interview withFlaunt Magazine, reiterated the news and mentioned that James Gunn had assured her that her version of Wonder Woman was not over yet,

“I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”

However, insider sources fromColliderstated that there was no such plan in the works despite Gal Gadot’s statements and assurance. Even James Gunn and Peter Safran’s list of films and shows in the first ‘chapter’ of the new DCU only includes the TV showParadise Lost, which is set in Themyscira.

Now, the previous reports were again squashed as another insider revealed that Gal Gadot would be back as Wonder Woman in the DCU. Posted by the X (formerly Twitter) handle ‘My Time To Shine Hello’, the tweet read,“Sources confirmed that despite reports saying otherwise, Gal Gadot will be back as Wonder Woman for James Gunn’s DCU”

There has been no official statement regarding the development of a Wonder Woman film, nor has there been a statement from Gal Gadot or James Gunn regarding previous rumors about the film not being in development.
