She expressed her enjoyment of working inBatman Beginsbut emphasized that her decision to not return to the film was the right one for her at that moment. TheMiss Meadowsstar ditched the blockbuster trilogy of Nolan and chose to work in the 2008 crime comedy film,Mad Money, which ended up being a huge box office disaster.

Christopher Nolan, the director ofThe Dark Knighttrilogy, revealed that he wanted Holmes back for the sequel. But ultimately the filmmaker understood the actor’s side. The role of Rachel Dawes in the subsequent sequel went to Maggie Gyllenhaal.

“Katie wasn’t available for the role, which I wasn’t very happy about, but these things happen, and I was very, very fortunate that Maggie [Gyllenhaal] was able to take it over.”
