The originalStar Warsfranchise was known for its epic storytelling that featured an eon-long battle between good and evil, redemption, and sacrifice. The films also featured epic and memorable characters such as Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and many more. The films made a massive impact on the people, who use some popular phrases of the original films even today.

However, the recent sequels fail to achieve that popularity as it is full of problems, Lucasfilms noticed that the new trilogy turned out to be a massive disappointment. They made some announcements for their upcoming films which included a film by Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins, but there has been no news for a few months, and recent reports state that those twoStar Warsfilms have been shelved.
Has Lucasfilms decided to Shelve Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkin’sStar Warsfilms?
Kathleen Kennedy, the chief of Lucasfilm Ltd. announced in December 2020 that Patty Jenkins, the creator of Wonder Woman would be directingStar Wars: Rogue Squadron, the next film of the franchise. But, in September 2022, Disney postponed the release date to a December 2023 release. However, insiders who are in the industry state that the film by Patty Jenkins is no longer in production.
Moreover, theStar Warsfilm byKevin Feigehas been shelved as well, the movie was in the works till May 2022, because Michael Waldron told Variety that he will be working on aStar Warsfilm for Kevin Feige. He added,“I’m enjoying having the freedom on that to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything.”

Kevin Feige’s films being put on the shelf was not that big of a surprise because he has been quite busy building compelling stories for the next phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it would be appropriate to say that Feige’s responsibilities for the MCU are keeping him away from the Star Wars project.
Why Did Lucasfilm Shelve the Films?
The franchise has been heavily criticized with the release of the new films, and with the release ofStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerin 2019, many people would believe that the franchise would rely on gifted filmmakers such as Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige for a successful revival of the franchise. However, with the announcement regarding both films being shelved by the franchise, it is evident that the franchise is moving forward in a different direction.
In spite of having little to no information, Jon Favreau the showrunner ofThe Mandalorianstated that the future after the post-sequel trilogy is being discussed at Lucasfilm and the plans would be announced beforeStar Wars Celebrations 2023.
