When Kevin Feige announced Phase 5 and Phase 6 of the MCU at the 2022 D23 Expo, fans had high hopes for the films under the two upcoming phases. However, similar to most projects under Phase 4,Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania,failed to win over its audience, and the threequel turned out to be one of the worst films under the MCU. It seems that the constant disappointing projects are prompting the studio to change its strategy of hiring directors for its upcoming projects.

Insider Jeff Sneider mentioned it recently on his podcast,The Hot Mic,saying that the president of the Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, is planning adjustments in his hiring strategy for directors.

Kevin Feige Plans to Hire More Experienced Directors

Marvel Studios presidentKevin Feigeis known for keeping an overlook on the ongoing projects of the studio. Over the years, the studio has successfully introduced some of the lesser-known directors to mainstream cinema, and most of them have also given their best.

However, with the constant disappointing projects from the studio, Feige is reportedly looking forward to hiring more experienced directors for its upcoming projects. According to Jeff Sneider, Marvel’s head plans to hire established and experienced directors in the future.

While talking about the upcoming Marvel projects, he said,“Feige does want to hire more established talent behind the camera.”Earlier reports suggested that Kevin Feige did not want to oversee Sam Raimi’s work in theDoctor Strangesequel and wanted to follow the same with Matt Shakman’sFantastic Four.

Although the studio has not made any such announcement yet, screenwriters Michael Waldron and Jeff Loveness are expected to be replaced with more experienced and proven talent soon. While both are linked with upcoming MCU films, fans believe that it might not stay the same for them due to the poor performance of their MCU projects.

So far, Marvel Studios has released 31 movies under its superhero franchise, apart from its Disney+ series. And it is scheduled to release more projects under the franchise in the future. And over the years, the studio has worked with several directors. While some enjoyed working with the studio, others took their leave due to the creative differences.

Some of the directors who left Marvel projects include Scott Derrickson, who left the sequel of the 2016 filmDoctor Strange.Edgar Wright, who was initially expected to directAnt-Man,left the film almost a year before its production began. The reason behind their departure is believed to be behind-the-scenes disagreements with the studio.

However, not everyone had the same experience.Black Pantherdirector Ryan Coogler, songs with Taika Waititi, James Gunn, and Sam Raimi, have been able to add their style elements to the films. It might not be the same for every director. However, with the report, it seems like the studio is opening up to the idea of having the directors more creative freedom in the future.
