The ongoing Egghead arc in theOne Piecemanga is slowly revealing the history behind Buccaneers, one of the extinct humanoid races in the world. Eiichiro Oda is adding to its lore by exploring the background of former Warlord of the Sea, Bartholomew Kuma.

Chapter 1095featured Jaygracia Saturn revealing more details about Kuma’s origin. He is considered to be the only Buccaneer alive at the moment even though the experiments that Dr. Vegapunk performed on the orders of the World Government have left him mentally dead. However, that may not be the case, and Kuma could have more blood relations than revealed.

Usopp in One Piece could be a Buccaneer

Usopp May Also Be A Buccaneer inOne Piece

The Buccaneer race is known for consisting of individuals that possess giant-like durability due to being blessed by the Sun God named Nika. That being said, Usopp has survived situations that no ordinary human could have had. His resilience is a mystery to this day.

The best example of Usopp’s durability is the moment when he survived a 4-ton baseball bat shot from Mr.4 during the Alabasta arc. Oda depicted in the manga that Usopp’s skull had cracked due to the blow yet he managed to stand up on his feet. There is no solid explanation for the supposed ‘plot hole’ except the fact that he is Buccaneer possessing giant durability, both literally and physically.

Another reason why Kuma may not be the only Buccaneer is the fact that Bonney was revealed to be the latter’s daughter inChapter 1095. Bonney has no semblance to giants like that her father, meaning that the long-nosed Usopp shouldn’t be discounted as a part of the race.

– Nika could turn into a giant ?!– Vegapunk has no articulations like Nika– Kuma is a Buccaneer– Usopp has been shown having no articulations either, asking if he was Vegapunk too and having ties multiple times with giants.#ONEPIECE#ONEPIECE1096pic.twitter.com/AmD0WqOvo2

Apart from Usopp’s herculean durability, another mystery that surrounds the long-nosed character is his surname inOne Piece. Could it mean that Usopp’s apparently Buccaneer ancestors hid their surnames to be safe from the clutches of the World Government? It is certainly a likelihood.

Usopp being a Buccaneer Makes Sense Because Of His Connection To Luffy

Buccaneers were enslaved by the World Government because of a heinous crime they committed in the past. It is possible that the tribe supported the Great Kingdom and thus incurred the wrath of the WG after their eventual victory. As revealed during a flashback relating to Bartholomew Kuma, only the Sun God Nika will free Buccaneers from their oppression.

When Luffy activated the full extent of his Devil Fruit powers, he took the form of the Sun God. There were also clear connections that suggested the Straw Hat Pirate to be the reincarnation of Nika. Based on that logic, Eiichiro Oda could be foreshadowing that the end is near for the World Government and Saturn will be the first to fall.

Although unknowingly, Usopp assisting the Sun God in avenging the Buccaneer race will be a fitting end to theOne Piecestory. The craftsman has tagged along with Luffy to make his parents proud and the ‘God’ may as well end a whole generation of oppression to achieve the same.
