While he did admit at the time that he was finding it difficult to deal with his sudden popularity, he also has another regret. One of his regrets is about a blockbuster movie, when he turned down the opportunity to star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s $43 million feature to doTitanic.

Leonardo DiCaprio Casually Said ‘No‘ to this Movie that Got Three Oscar Nominations
Oscar-winning actorLeonardo DiCapriois one of Hollywood’s biggest stars with roles inThe Wolf of Wall Street,The Revenant,Titanic, andRomeo + Juliet. However, the actor frequently expressed his regret at missing out on a certain cult classic from the 1990s.
Speaking toGQback in 2008, DiCaprio confirmed that he turned down the lead role of Eddie Adams (aka Dirk Diggler) in Paul Thomas Anderson’sBoogie Nights, opting to star in the 1997 disaster epicTitanicinstead. The role of Eddie ultimately went toMark Wahlberg, kick-starting his acting career.

“Boogie Nights is a movie I loved and I wish I would’ve done,”DiCaprio told the outlet.
And when asked if he would now choose the film overTitanicin hindsight, the actor continued:

“I’m not saying I would have. But it would have been a different direction, career-wise. I think they’re both great and wish I could have done them both … The truth is, if I’d not done Titanic, I wouldn’t be able to do the types of movies or have the career I have now, for sure. But it would have been interesting to see if I had gone the other way.”
In addition to receiving three Academy Award nominations in 1998 for Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor,Boogie Nightswas a hit with both moviegoers and critics upon its release.

TheMagnoliafilmmaker discussed why Leonardo DiCaprio had a difficult decision to make when he was offered the role ofBoogie Nightsin an interview withScreen Rant. Stating that Leonardo DiCaprio made the right decision, the director revealed that the actor had the option of another film.
“That is very true that I asked Leo to be in Boogie Nights, and he spent many, many months agonizing and debating about it. Ultimately, what I came to realize, about halfway into that long decision-making process, is that he had a choice to make—either to do Titanic or to do Boogie Nights, and he chose to do Titanic”
Overall, it seems like everything turned out okay. It will always be a question as to whether those early choices would have ultimately affected the fact that Wahlberg and DiCaprio have each amassed illustrious careers.
