The Disney Plus series was released amidst huge creative overhauls at Marvel Studios due to the negative response received by the seriesSecret Invasionand movies such asAnt-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaandThor: Love and Thunder.

The final episode of the second season shows Loki trying to save the multiverse from collapsing after going back in time to try to stop his variant Sylvie from killing the Kang variant He Who Remains. By the end of the episode, Loki decides to sacrifice himself in order to save the multiverse and creates a throne for himself. He assumes the role of God of Stories to preserve the multiverse. Loki’s arc is complete in the series and in the larger MCU as he sacrifices his moniker of being the God of Mischief and his life beyond the multiverse to protect it. He is speculated to have taken on the place of He Who Remains. In case Marvel decides to go with Kang the Conqueror as the main antagonist of the Multiverse Saga, Loki would be the perfect adversary.

Criticisms On The Season 2 Finale ofLoki

The responses to the second season of Loki were largely positive, with many praising the character arc of the God of Mischief. The show was a welcome surprise for Marvel fans who have been receiving less-than-stellar entries in the MCU. Tom Hiddleston’s performance as Loki in the final episode was also praised.

However, the final episode also drew criticism from a certain section of the audience. Critic Joe George on an episode ofDen Of Geekspoke about the writing and pacing of the episode, calling it ‘clunky’ and ‘silly’ at places as compared to the eventual consequences of the episode. He said,

“It was like [Avengers] Endgame in miniature. But as opposed to having three hours to do three distinct one-hour arcs or acts, there were 15 minutes. That struck me as clunky. There was way too much green, gloopy CGI…There were smart things that they did with that but I do feel like the visuals are not matching the emotional tones that they were going for.”

The critic went on to praise the overall emotional arc of the character but confessed that he had execution-related complaints on the episode, giving it a B+ rating.
