Unchartedstar Mark Wahlberg has previously announced that he will not appear in a superhero movie anytime soon. While the actor has multiple action-adventure films under his belt, the genre that popularized Marvel and DC titles seems unappealing to him.

Wahlberg does not detest comic book films and claims they are a major box office success, although he would never want to see himself leave his trailer in a spandex costume. That being said, there is one condition that would make him break his own rule.

Mark Wahlberg Is Willing To Play A Superhero If A Certain Director Is Involved
Speaking withTotal Film, Mark Wahlberg said that the deal would depend on several factors, but mainly if it involves one significant figure in the filmmaking industry:
“I don’t know. It would depend, and if Marty was directing it.”

He was alluding toMartin Scorsese, whom he worked with in the Academy Award-winning filmThe Departed, which earned Wahlberg an Oscar nomination. The director previously headlined the tabloids after voicing his opinions against Marvel movies. In a column fromNew York Times, Scorsese said:
“I said that I’ve tried to watch a few of them and that they’re not for me, that they seem to me to be closer to theme parks than they are to movies as I’ve known and loved them throughout my life, and that in the end, I don’t think they’re cinema.”

Despite Wahlberg’s wish to collaborate with Scorsese, the actor does not resent the genre and pretty much enjoys them. He toldCinePop:
“I like them enough, I’m not one of those purists who is like ‘Oh this is not cinema.’ I think the audiences decide and obviously, they [superhero movies] have been wildly successful. It’s just that for me, personally, as an actor, I would have a really hard time walking out of my trailer with a cape on, and a spandex suit.”

Little did fans know that theMile 22star was also considered to join the Snyderverse. Producer Charles Roven reportedly wanted Wahlberg to become DCEU’sGreen Lantern. Mario Robles first spilled the rumor on Twitter, though it was neither confirmed nor denied by Warner Bros.

Mark Wahlberg Prefers Working On True-To-Life Films
TheTransformersstar further explained what type of movies he would like to work on. His passion project,The Six Million Dollar Man, is a science fiction film that Wahlberg considers the closest to a superhero movie. Inspired by the TV series of the same title, it follows an injured man restored to health and rebuilt using state-of-the-art technology. The actor revealed what enticed him to take on the role:
“It was grounded in reality, and you felt like it would be much more believable as being realistic, to me, to be able to play that part, and feel like ‘I could do this,’ in a way that didn’t feel silly.”
Mark Wahlberg may not be closing his doors to any role that comes his way, but he is quite firm with his decision not to join other actors who made fortunes out of wearing capes and spandex.
