Ghost Rider’s Nicolas Cage Wants To Play DC Villain Spectre

Nicolas Cage’s debut as Ghost Rider in the MCU has been a hot topic for quite some time, but there is still no confirmation of this. The actor has previously expressed interest in reprising the role, but it seems that there is no update on the project at the moment.

So, to satiate the fan’s curiosity, Cage responded viaReddit:

“Ohh! Yeah! Jim Corrigan, the Spectre (old DC comic character). That would be a fun one. But that’s a hard one to pull off because he’s virtually invincible, he has no weakness. You need characters that have a kryptonite, that have a flaw, but he’s kinda unbeatable. But that would be a fun one.”

DC Comics introduced Spectre as a supernatural entity who serves as the wrath of God. His job is to punish the evil and the guilty. His human alter ego is Jim Corrigan, a police detective who was brutally murdered and resurrected to life.

Ghost Rider Anti-Heroes

The character was created by Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily, who first appeared inMore Fun Comics#52 in February 1940. Spectre has been featured in several DC animated series, such asBatman: The Brave and the Bold,Justice League Action, andYoung Justice. He also appeared on popular television shows, such asConstantineandSmallville.

Will Nicolas Cage Return ForGhost Rider’s MCU Debut?

Nicolas Cage previously portrayed Marvel’s Ghost Rider, also known as Johnny Blaze, both inGhost Rider(2007) andGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance(2012). The Devil’s Bounty Hunter is a memorable character for Cage, who is a huge comic book nerd, as it helped him find his ground in the superhero genre. When asked what he thought about the idea of returning to the role, he toldComic Book:

“Ghost Rider is an amazing character. I mean, he’s a complicated character. It’s kind of like, how do you tell the story of Faust within the context of that universe? Because it’s a very philosophical character. I think it makes him special from other superheroes.”
