Thor: Love and Thunder, the much-anticipated sequel to Taika Waititi’s colorful and explosiveThor: Ragnarokis scheduled to begin filming in early 2021. Fourth in line,Thor: Love and Thunderwill bring back the popular and nerdy scientist Jane Foster who is played by Natalie Portman. Last seen in the critically pannedThor: The Dark World, Natalie Portman will finally return for the fourth installment of Thor.

After confirming her return as Jane Foster inThor 4, Natalie Portman is also rumored to stay faithful to the arc ofThe Mighty Thor. In the arc, Jane Foster is diagnosed with breast cancer. However, she refuses any kind of magical treatment from Thor and continues her chemotherapy. In a turn of events, Jane Foster lifts the Mjölnir and thus becomes the Mighty Thor.

While it was never officially confirmed whether Natalie Portman would become Thor inThor: Love and Thunder, a recent interview withespnWhas finally laid all our doubts to rest. In the interview, Natalie Portman confirms that she will be indeed lifting the Mjölnir, and become the Goddess of Thunder.
Foudy: Do you get to hold the hammer?

Portman: I do, I do.
Foudy: And be like, “Look at me now boys!”
Portman: [Laughs] That’s exactly [what I say]. You guessed the script, Julie.

Foudy: “Check me out now, bitches, I got the hammer!” Come on, please tell me that’s in the script?
Portman: Oh yeah. I mean, that’s like basically all I say. You’re psychic.

Apart from the light humor, the news of Natalie Portman finally confirming her transformation into Thor and lifting the Mjölnir is exciting news. In the comics, Jane Foster’s cancer aggravates every time she transforms into Thor since the powers flush out her toxins, including the chemotherapy. Considering that Taika Waititi and MCU have not stayed entirely faithful to the source material, only time will tell howThor 4will introduce Jane Foster as Thor, including her diagnosis of cancer.
As it’s still unclear how Jane Foster will wield the Mjölnir, considering that the artifact was destroyed inThor: Ragnarok, our best bet is that it is somehow related to thetime travel mess fromAvengers: Endgame. Whatever the reason might be, it is time for another character to be worthy.
Thor: Love and Thunderis set to release on August 18, 2025.
