Kanye West is one of the few people in today’s sociopolitical domain who has the platform and the esteem to exert free speech and expression without fear of repercussions. The most recent of the American rapper’s rants came on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where he claimed that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and actor and singer Jamie Foxx stole the idea forDjango Unchainedfrom him.

Kanye West accuses Quentin Tarantino of stealing Django Unchained idea
Kanye Westclaims to have conceived the concept for Quentin Tarantino’s 2012 filmDjango Unchained. During an interview with Piers Morgan on Friday, the rapper, known legally as Ye, revealed that he first shared the idea for the slavery-themed blockbuster as a concept for a music video.
“I pitched the idea for ‘Django’ to [actor] Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger,'”the rapper explained, referring to his hit song from 2005.“And then Tarantino made it into a film.”

Foxx appeared both on the Grammy-winning track and in the music video, which was directed by Hype Williams and featured pinup models posing for fictitious magazine covers, a far different subject than“Django.”Years later, he would co-star in the Tarantino film with Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kerry Washington.

Although Kanye West did not elaborate on his alleged pitch to Tarantino, he used“Django”to argue that free speech exists in a context, citing how DiCaprio used racial slurs in the film but was not labeled a racist.

The director, who won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the 2012 film, appeared as a guest on Thursday’s (27 October) episode ofJimmy Kimmel Live,where he addressed West’s allegations directly.

When asked if West’s claims were true, Tarantino told Kimmel,“Well, there’s no truth that Kanye West came up with the idea of Django and then he told it to me and I went, ‘Hey wow, that’s a really great idea.” Let me take Kanye’s idea and turn it into Django Unchained.’ That did not happen. I had the idea for Django for a long time before I ever met Kanye,”Tarantino continued.
However, the director ofInglourious Basterdswent on to add that West did approach him with a proposal for a music video in which he would play a slave.Django Unchainedwas released in 2012 and stars Foxx as a freed slave who teams up with a bounty hunter to save his wife from a plantation owner.

Kanye West has recently been caught in a scandal for a series of antisemitic remarks he made. The rapper, who has been embroiled in several disputes over the years, has been cut by both Adidas and Balenciaga as a result of his“hateful and dangerous”remarks.
