Margot Robbie has been the talk of the town all summer for beautifully bringingBarbieto life on the big screen for the very first time.

Looking beautiful in pink, the Australian actress impressively led Greta Gerwig’s movie that touched on subjects like existential crisis and patriarchy in a humorously brilliant way. The movie has shattered multiple records at the box office, grossing close to $1.5 billion globally.
This isn’t the first time Robbie has left fans gushing over her performance in pink. Her scene involving Leonardo DiCaprio, where she teases his character Jordan Belfort skyrocketed her popularity, akin to Wall Street’s most sought-after stocks. However, Robbie didn’t have the best of times during the filming of the movie.

What Disgusted Margot Robbie During the Filming of Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-Nominated Film
Martin Scorsese‘sWolf of Wall Streetfollows the rise and fall of genius stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), who finds himself on the radar of the SEC and the FBI for defrauding wealthy investors out of millions with his partner Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill). However, the movie also sheds light on the excess of s*x, drugs, and thrills.
Margot Robbieplayed the role of Naomi Lapaglia, the second wife of Belfort. The character of a gold-digging spouse needed a lot of s*x appeal to set the tone for Belfort’s blunt pursuit which led to him leaving his first wife, Teresa Petrillo.

To achieve the desired look, Robbie had to undergo an excessive beauty routine, which included spending hours doing hair, and makeup and wearing long acrylic nails. Further, a lot of spray tan went into giving her that s*xy brown shade. For Robbie though, the whole process was nightmarish.
“I’d walk around my house like a mannequin with wet nails and tan and feel disgusting. It was ridiculous,”Robbie toldGrazia.

Speaking to Jake Gyllenhaal in a separate chat show forVariety, she again recalled her experience:“The smell still haunts me.”
The stint in the Oscar-nominated movie gave Robbie a lot of exposure, eventually opening doors for leading roles in movies likeBabylonand nowBarbie. But it seemingly also gave the actress the smell that is perhaps going to haunt her forever.

How Margot Robbie Felt Empowered While Playing Naomi Lapaglia in Martin Scorsese’s Movie
Robbie didn’t go through such an overwhelming beauty routine to look good on screen without adding anything meaningful to the plot. In fact, her character’s s*x appeal was used as a currency that helped her make her place in the world of excess and hold power among the wolves.
Talking about the male gaze during the release of her filmTerminal (2018), wherein she played a stripper, she toldYahoo:
“I like that she is very conscious of the male gaze which she uses as a weapon. If I see that and it’s not used in an ironic, subversive way then I don’t necessarily agree with it.If I see it in a character that is using it as a weapon, or a tool or doing it intentionally, like in Wolf of Wall Street, she’s wearing a short dress for a reason, it’s her currency and knows she’s going to get her own, that feels empowering.”
However, speaking during aBafta: A Life In Picturesrecording (viaEvening Standard), the actress revealed that before filming that infamous scene with DiCaprio, she had to take a couple of shots of tequila because she was very nervous.
