How is it different from Google Maps
Google Maps feature is more focused onwhere rather than what.Which means, if your company has a strong offline presence, putting your location on Google Maps may be a great option, along with your phone number.
On the other hand, the People Card feature is simply a new way to share your visiting card. It consists of all the basic information about you, your work. On top of that, if you’re a freelancer, artist, or other such jobs that don’t have a fixed address, this option is great to make your quick internet portfolio. For example, if you’re a musician, rather than adding your location (sensitive data), using the people Card feature you can share your SoundCloud or YouTube page in addition to the bio.
How to Create your Public Card
As of now, you don’t have the option to make it on the desktop version of Chrome. So you need to open the browser on your mobile. To create the People Card,Search for “Add me to search”in the address bar and hit enter. In the first result, you may either view and example card orhit Get Startedto make your own.
On this page, you have to enter all the details that you want to show on your People Card. You are required to fill some basic details such as your name, location (rough), about you and occupation. Besides that, you get an array of optional fields like work, education, hometown, website and phone number.
You don’t have the option to change your name & email ID, so you need to be careful about the ID you use which automatically picks up. The part is the addition of numerous social media profiles which includes most of the platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. There is no restriction on adding social media, so you add all the platforms in the list. After that, just hit preview at the bottom, and make changes if any and click save. You’re all set now!
Limitations
Although it’s a great option to mark your online presence, here are some of the limitations I think should be dealt with in the future.

The new People Card feature is a great way to build up your online presence. In my opinion, it’s a great way especially for start-ups, freelancers, musicians and other artists to link all your work in a single space. But since it’s in development stages, I’m eager to see how to plays out if two people have the same names or if it’s filters relevant info specific to my location and profile. Surely, this might raise privacy questions, but still, let’s wait and watch how this plays out.
