If anyone’s work is halted, the entire production suffers. Currently, this is the case with the highly anticipatedStar Warsfilm, which has been in development for quite a while.

The film’s writer, Taika Waititi, is currently facing struggles in completing the script. However, in an interview, Waititi explained the reason for his delayed progress. He had previously offered insight into his script-writing process.

Presently, he is busy writing the script for theStar Warsfilm, leaving many wondering about the completion timeline. In an interview, the writer elaborated on why his work on theStar Warsscript is experiencing delays. Waititi stated,
“I’ve got a really good idea for it. It’s just as with all films, it’s this middle part. You’re like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you’re like, ‘Well, I guess they can’t meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'”

Taika Waititi reflects on his screenwriting trick
During the BAFTA Screenwriters’ Lecture Series, Taika Waititi shared insights into his writing process. The actor disclosed a little-known trick he employs. He writes a draft, sets it aside for a year, and then lets another 2-3 years pass. Waititi humorously remarked,
“I’ll come back to it and I’ll read it and I’m like ‘Who wrote this sh*t.’ And then I will read it like maybe 2-3 times and then I will throw that away.”

He explained that he then rewrites the script from the beginning, based on his memory of what he read. Waititi acknowledged that while this process is helpful, it takes“way longer than anyone wants to do.”
Perhaps, this can be one of the reasons for his delayed work on theStar Warsscript.
