Robert Downey Jr Found Prison Better ThanU.S. Marshals
The renowned actorRobert Downey Jrhas appeared in a number of movies that helped boost his career and catapult his Hollywood fame. But not all of them were preferred by the actor. Apparently, there’s one movie in particular that Downey Jr hated the most, throughout his decorated filmography.
Recalling his 1988 action thriller,U.S. Marshals,where he played the villainous role of Special Agent John Royce, Robert Downey Jr stated in his bookThe Fall and Rise of the Comeback Kid, how he hated being a part of it. Although the film was arguably essential in his formation as an actor, Downey Jr compared it with his prison time, where even prison felt better.
“Would rather wake up in jail for a TB test than have to wake up another morning knowing I’m going to the set of U.S. Marshals”
Continuing to criticize his movie, the actor mentioned it was his worst experience ever. Instead of being grateful for the opportunity, Downey Jr slammedU.S. Marshalson different occasions.

Robert Downey Jr Brutally Criticized His Own Movie
Adding further in his book,The Fall and Rise of the Comeback Kid, Robert Downey Jr brutally criticized the 1988 movie as “possibly the worst action movie of all time”. The actor later went ahead and discussed why he had such a bad experience while filming the movie.
“You’ve had a traumatic year, you’ve been practically suicidal — what do you think would be really healing for you? How about like twelve weeks of running around as Johnny Handgun? I think that if you talk to a spirit guide, they would say, ‘That’ll kill you.’ … I thought maybe there was something I was missing, and what I really needed to do was to be in one of those films that I love taking my kid to. It would end up being really depressing.”
Despite putting his hopes onU.S. Marshals,Robert Downey Jr ended up hating his film. Therefore, in a different interview withAV Club, the actor explained how he shut out his memories of the 1988 movie. Almost comparing it with a bad trip, Downey Jr mentioned the movie had no story.
“I don’t remember anything about U.S. Marshals except that we were running around and pretending like we could ever hold a candle to The Fugitive. I just remember like, ‘Strap on your bulletproof vest, you’re in the bayou!’ What the fuck what? Where’s the story?”
WhileU.S. Marshalsundoubtedly shaped his career, Robert Downey Jr hated the movie. But fortunately, it’s not something that he is remembered for.
